What Is International Women’s Day?

If we dig a little deeper to find out how this holiday appeared, we will face the story which is not romantic actually. This holiday symbolizes the women’s fight for their rights. In 1945, the United Nations created the first international document saying that women and men have equal rights. And only starting from March 1975 this holiday is officially celebrated by countries – members of the UN.

Traditionally Slavic people associate this holiday with the name of Klara Cetkin – a woman who was fighting for female rights in elections at the beginning of the 20 th century. But the exact date was chosen much later and International Women’s Day in Ukraine became celebrated during the USSR times.

In Ukraine, it’s a state holiday and people have a day off to celebrate with their families and friends. Some people associate this holiday with Mother’s Day but of course, it’s not correct as it is a day of all females: from small girls to grandmothers.

Why Is It Important To Acknowledge International Women’s Day For Your Partner

While studying at school on this holiday all the girls in her class put on beautiful dresses on this day and in the middle of the lessons, boys presented girls tulips with some nice small presents. At university, she definitely visited parties where together with friends they celebrated International Women’s Day and boys treated girls as princesses there. If she has experience of working at a big company then probably the celebration started from the very morning there. It could be that every woman was met with flowers and a glass of champagne once she entered the building and she got gifts and congratulations from clients during the day.
